Appendies

six degree could change the world

Live Stock industry is the main cause to the damage of the environment!
The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) “ Livestock’s Long Shadow” report states that livestock production is the biggest factor that causes global warming. Every meat production process generates three(3) main greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide(CO2), Methance and Nitrous Oxide(N2O). The impact of methane is 72 times and Nitrous Oxide is 300 times higher as compared with carbon dioxide.
More than 20% of carbon dioxide emissions come from livestock. This is more than the combined impact of the entire world transportation (i.e.13.5%) total emissions!

Livestock is also the biggest culprit to the destruction and pollution of land and water. 70% of the Amazon forest has become pasture. About 20% of pasture land has been destroyed and undergone erosion due to overgrazing and intensive livestock farming. In the U.S. alone, every year, trillions liters of water is used for irrigation to grow livestock feed, utilising about 85% of U.S. freshwater resources! Also, cattle produce a lot of droppings which emit poisonous gases that upset the ecological system.
Produce 1 kg of beef     : Consume 20,000 kg of water
Produce 1 kg of rice      : Consume 1,912 kg of water
Produce 1 kg of potato  : Consume 500 kg of water

Water used on beef production is 10 times higher than that required for rice cultivation, and nearly 40 times greater than potato plantation.

1 kg of beef :
  • use up 16 kg of grain
  • Use up 20,000 ton of water
  • Produce 36.4 kg of CO2
  • Cause 35 kg surface soil erosion
  • Livestock emits 100 types of poisonous gases
  • Produce 40 kg of droppings

The world’s population could become all but vegetarian by the year 2050 because of water shortages and a spiralling population, scientists have warned.
Vegans can save the world. If every human was vegan there would be enough food to feed everyone many times over. There would be less pollution which would reduce the effects of climate change. There would be more water for humans. More land for recreational purposes and for wildlife. And better health.
